Asian rhinoplasty aims to enhance the balance between the nose and the rest of the face while preserving the ethnic beauty of the Asian nose.
Asian noses are different from Caucasian noses in that they usually have less projection and wider nostrils. Therefore, the rhinoplasty procedures that work on a Caucasian nose are not necessarily the procedures that work best on an Asian nose. If you are Asian and desire nose reshaping surgery, be sure to see a plastic surgeon who has experience with Asian nose surgery. The goal should be an improvement in appearance, not a Caucasian-izing of the nose.

Dr. David L. Kahn has been performing Asian rhinoplasty procedures for over 25 years and has had a significant number of Asian Pacific Americans patients. Drawing on his extensive experience, Dr. Kahn discovered that Asian faces have very unique needs. In response to those needs, he employs specialized techniques which have been developed particularly for Asian patients and which have earned him local press coverage. You can learn more about Dr. Kahn’s Asian rhinoplasty expertise in our press section.
Dr. Kahn uses several different rhinoplasty procedures when treating Asian noses, including the use of an implant or a “nose lift” to form a more cosmetically appealing nose that retains its ethnicity.
As its name implies, a nose lift “lifts” the nose, providing height and projection to a flat nose as well as narrowing it. In so doing, it takes away the “washed out” appearance between the eyes while giving them distinction and a framework. In addition, the rhinoplasty procedure provides balance between cheekbones, chin and forehead.
During the nose lift surgery, incisions are made and the nasal skin is lifted from its underlying bone and cartilage support system. The bone and cartilage are removed or rearranged to create a newly shaped structure. Dr. Kahn then uses grafts in the nasal tip as well as an L-shaped implant to create a higher bridge and to narrow a nose that is too flat. He also applies “struts” in the nose and a mesh material for the bridge. Balance and projection are the essence of beauty in any face, and an Asian rhinoplasty provides this improvement.
In addition to the Asian rhinoplasty, many patients find that a chin implant greatly enhances the overall balance and symmetry of their face. This procedure can be performed at the same time as the rhinoplasty with excellent results (see picture to the left). A consultation with Dr. Kahn can help you decide whether a nose lift in conjuction with any ancillary procedure is right for you.

Patient Testimonial:
I was probably one of the most, if not *the* most nervous patient to come to Dr. Kahn’s office for an Asian rhinoplasty consultation. However, after two long and informative consultation sessions, and several phone conversations with his professional and courteous support staff, it became clear to me that I would not want to have this delicate procedure performed by anyone other than Dr. Kahn. When my nose cast came off just one week after the operation, I was ecstatic. My nose was nothing short of perfection! That day, I walked down the street incredulous, and could not stop catching my profile in the shop windows and all available reflective media …
