1. How do I know if I am a good candidate for gynecomastia?
Males who have excess tissue in the breast are usually good candidates only if they have tried
to exercise and there were no positive results. In general a consultation with Dr. Kahn can determine the validity of your case.
2. What type of anesthesia is used in this procedure?
Male breast reduction, like many other plastic surgery procedures, requires general anesthesia with the anesthesiologist present at all times during the surgery.
3. How long does the operation take?
The operation time varies and can take up to 2 hours.
4. Is the recovery after gynecomastia painful?
Most patients feel tender or bruised after the procedure, but recovery is usually well
controlled with pain medication that will keep pain levels at a comfort zone.
5. Are there any scars or bruises left from this procedure?
The scars from the breast reduction surgery will be red and slightly raised, but after 3-6 months they usually fade and flatten out.
6. How long is the healing process? When can I return to work?
Patients should plan to be off work anywhere from 4-7 days. Athletic activities must wait until 3 weeks after the surgery.
7. Is gynecomastia a permanent procedure?
This procedure re-contours the shape by removing cells, but if a great amount of weight is gained, there is a possibility that the cells may
enlarge, therefore diminishing the overall results. However, in general, there is still a noticeable difference.
